FoodDonations

We accept direct and indirect food donations through regional nonprofit networks and direct donations from regional nonprofit organizations and businesses. Food donations are redistributed to individuals and families through our CARE Box Program and to other nonprofits through our CARE Network.

ClothingDonations

We accept direct clothing donations and indirect clothing donations through the Outreached Arms Clothing Project. Clothing donations are redistributed to individuals and families through our CARE Box Program and to other nonprofits through our CARE Network.

OtherDonations

We accept direct educational donations to provide in-kind gifts to individuals, local free libraries, and regional literacy programs. We also accept personal care items for redistribution to individuals and families through our CARE Box Program and to other nonprofits through our CARE Network.

Our Focus

Community Angel Resource Exchange (CARE) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that was founded to bring together the complimentary goals of mitigating resource waste and reducing resource insecurity in an effort to build a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable community. Community Angel Resource Exchange (CARE) partners with regional organizations to redistribute surplus resources to individuals and families through the CARE Box Program and to regional nonprofits with similar missions to further reduce potential wastes through the CARE Network.

Headquartered in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA, Community Angel Resource Exchange works in cooperation with other regional nonprofits with complimentary goals. Outreached Arms is a Pittsburgh-based, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing resources to the region’s homeless and poor communities. 412 Food Rescue is a Pittsburgh-based, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization committed to repairing the disconnect between food waste, hunger, and environmental sustainability.

Collectively, we strive to mitigate both resource waste and resource insecurity by accepting regional rescues of surplus food, clothing, and other items and redistributing those items directly to community members and to other local nonprofit organizations with compatible missions.

Community Education

Resource waste and resource insecurity should not persist within the same communities, but it does. Community Angel Resource Exchange (CARE) is committed to raising awareness within local and regional communities while using one problem to solve the other. Every ounce of understanding helps.

CARE Box Program

The CARE Box Program hand-packs and distributes CARE Boxes to regional individuals and families. Boxes include a mix of freshly prepared food, perishable unprepared food (raw fruit, raw vegetables, and dairy items), shelf-stable items (cereals, dry grains, canned goods, nuts, etc.), and personal care items.

Resource surplus often exceeds the needs of identified, food-insecure community members. The CARE Network invites community-conscious volunteers committed to mitigating waste and raising community awareness to accept perishable surplus items and help spread the word.
