Levy Donation to 412 Food Rescue Feeds Hundreds
Levy, hospitality provider for The David L. Lawrence Convention Center, in Pittsburgh, PA made a large, weekend food donation of: pasta, pierogies, haluski, kielbasa, roasted vegetables, chocolate mousse, and apple crisp, to 412 Food Rescue. This generous donation was distributed to hundreds of families in the region through the coordination of local nonprofits Outreached Arms and Community Angel.
The Red Door Program of Saint Mary of Mercy Church received 150 meals for their community kitchen. The Red Door ministry began during the Great Depression era. From its humble beginnings of serving a simple meal, it has greatly grown over the years to seek to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters in need in the Pittsburgh area.
Shepherd’s Heart received 150 meals for their Drop-In Center. Shepherd’s Heart is a congregation of the Anglican Diocese of Pittsburgh – One Church of Miraculous Expectation and Missionary Grace. As followers of Jesus Christ Shepherd’s Heart is committed to worship in Spirit and in Truth, raising up true worshipers in the church. They feed the hungry, the homeless, the poor, and the addicted, with God’s Word and food every weekday morning in their Drop-In Center.
Second Harvest received 150 meals for their Community Free Fridge Program. The Community Free Fridge is open to everyone, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Giver’s Hand Community Food Pantry received 150 meals for their community kitchen, pantry, and home delivery program. The Giver’s Hand Community Food Pantry is a regional non-profit sponsored by The Cross of Christ Community Church.
In addition to local and regional non-profits receiving food on behalf of community members, multi-meal, family-style kits were assembled by Outreached Arms and hand-delivered to 24 individual, local families.

412 Food Rescue is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that was founded as a direct response to the disconnect between food waste, hunger, and environmental sustainability. 412 Food Rescue partners with food retailers, volunteer drivers, and nonprofit organizations to connect surplus food with individuals and families who are experiencing food insecurity. Food donor partners range from grocery stores, wholesalers, caterers, and everything in between. Nonprofit partners include housing authorities, daycare centers, churches, community centers, and more. The 412 Food Rescue model of food recovery and redistribution not only enables access to healthy food, but gets food to where people already are – overcoming barriers like transportation and time.

Outreached Arms™ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that mobilizes volunteers to live and spread the Word of God through service to others. Our mission is to serve food to the hungry, build relationships that inspire the despaired, provide basic necessities and services for the poor, and teach and exemplify the message of Jesus Christ to all. Outreached Arms™ partners with the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh to serve meals to Pittsburgh’s inner-city homeless and working poor. In commitment to the community, Outreached Arms helps coordinate distribution of food rescued through 412 Food Rescue to local and regional outreach organizations as well as individual families.

Community Angel Resource Exchange™ (CARE) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that was founded to bring together the complimentary goals of reducing resource waste and reducing resource insecurity in an effort to build a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable community. Community Angel partners with regional organizations to redistribute surplus resources to individuals and families through the Community Angel Resource Exchange (CARE) Box Program and to regional nonprofits with similar missions to further reduce potential wastes through the CARE Network.
